HOW TO HELP
Ken Deem rowing on Puget Sound
Youth athletes rowing on Foss Waterway in Tacoma
Youth athletes during a morning session
Middle school athlete in a racing single
Race to Alaska Fundraiser
In June 2023, Tacoma Rowing member Ken Deem will be rowing 750 miles from Port Townsend, WA to Ketchikan, Alaska to raise money for Tacoma Rowing's youth programs. As a Tacoma Rowing member, Ken is committed to making our sport more accessible and equitable. With your support, we plan to raise $7,500 to support our youth programs in the form of financial support for athletes and needed repairs/upgrades to equipment. Read more about the Race to Alaska and Ken's race bio.
We are growing quickly and have plans to scale up capacity in 2023-2024. We need your help to get more young people on the water and spread our message about rowing to communities traditionally excluded from the sport.
Our biggest needs are:
Rowing machines. Each costs $1,000, but will last 15 years with proper maintenance.
Replacement parts for boats (seats, tracks, shoes, oarlocks, etc). Many of our boats are 20+ years old. We can prolong their life and improve the experience of our youth athletes by replacing many of the parts allowing more young people to get on the water.
A newer quad (4-person sculling boat). In the fall of 2023, we will begin our first competitive high school season. While our current fleet is great for beginners and we have 3 race-worthy singles and doubles, we do not have a race-worthy quad in our fleet.
DONATE NOW OR PLEDGE PER MILE:
$0.04/mile= $30 for safety lights, yoga mats, boat straps and other essential items for our training
$0.10/mile= $75 for new shoes for one seat of a boat
